Officine Maccaferri has produced steel fibres for more than 25 years, called WIRAND^®.

The framework with WIRAND^® fibres, produced with low carbon steel wire with high pullout resistance, allows an increase in the resistance of mechanical properties of the concrete, in particular:

• Prevention from cracking caused by plastic shrinkage
• Increase concrete thermal variations
• The ability to absorb energy during post cracking deflection
• Increase of tensile strength under flexural load
• Increase of the impact resistance
• Increase of resistance to cyclic loads (fatigue)

WIRAND^® fibres reinforce any kind of concrete products which saves time. Their end hook geometry is a very important feature which improves adhesion between concrete.

WIRAND^® fibres applications include tunneling, shotcrete, industrial flooring and precast concrete.

For improvement of fire resistance in the tunnel final lining, Maccaferri offers polypropylene and cellulose fibres.

The concrete reinforced with polypropylene fibres allow:

• Improved fire resistance
• Reduce plastic shrinkage cracking
• Improve freeze/thaw durability
